Privacy Statement

1. Introduction

Quaker Service Australia (QSA) is the service agency of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in Australia. Its Statement of Purpose is to express in a practical way the concern of Australian Quakers for the building of a more peaceful, equitable, just and compassionate world. To this end, QSA works with communities in need to improve their quality of life with projects which are economically and environmentally appropriate and sustainable.

2. Definition

For the purposes of thispolicy QSA understands its stakeholders to be individual donors, donor groups and organisations, project partners and participants, and Australia Yearly Meeting.

3. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that QSA protects the privacy and confidentiality of all stakeholders (unless requested otherwise), in carrying out all its activities.

4. Policy

QSA will request and store the minimum amount of information from and about its stakeholders which it requires to carry out its role, and this information is not made available to a third party, including our project partners, without consent of the individual or organization, unless required by law. QSA is bound by the National Privacy Principles as set out in Schedule 3 of The Privacy Act 1988 as amended.

5. Procedures

  • All publications mailed out directly by QSA to contain the office contact details and details of the 'opt out' clause.
  • A statement or reference to QSA's Privacy Policy to be included on the website and in the Finance Policy in relation to fundraising;
  • Storage, archiving or destruction of correspondence to be in accordance with QSA's Information Access and Storage Guidelines;
  • All complaints re privacy should be addressed to the Executive Administrator or in some cases it may be appropriate for the matter to be referred to the Convenor of the Management Committee, which has overall responsibility for privacy issues;
  • If any of our project partners wish to write directly to those who have made specific donations to that project, the QSA staff will redirect any mail received for them but will not supply donor details to our project partners direct unless requested by the donor;
  • Should another Quaker committee or Meeting wish to make contact with a number of our donors, then the QSA staff will distribute a specific letter or a circular letter to those donors without disclosing the donors' identity to the requesting organisation. It would then be up to the individual donor to establish direct contact with them.
