QSA is proud to launch its new Living Gifts Catalogue for 2008 - 2009. Living Gifts are a very different kind of gift. Through the Living Gifts Catalogue, you can buy a gift for a friend or family member that is so much more meaningful than yet another pair of socks, and more importantly - will truly make a difference to those who need it most. Your gift might be chickens for a community in Uganda, culture camps for young women in Indigenous Australia, a toilet and bathroom for a family in India or a mushroom kit for a farmer in Cambodia. These gifts have been chosen by our partners because they know they will help improve access to services, and increase knowledge, skills and community expertise. Friends in Deed
"India had THE most profound influence on my life" said Pat Hewitt, the first staff person to be sent overseas on behalf of QSA. Pat wasn't the only one who benefited from this experience. A trained nurse, Pat worked with Dorothy Rule at the health clinic at Rasulia Friends Rural Centre, and made significant improvements to the health of rural people in India.
Pat Hewitt is one of many, many people interviewed by Heather Saville for her book entitled "Friends in Deed", which outlines the history of QSA's development work throughout the world. Keep checking this space for more snippets from the book, and details of the book launch, which is expected to take place in March 2009 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of QSA's establishment.
